Baku tembak antara TNI/Polri dengan kelompok bersenjata di Papua masih terus terjadi. Terakhir, kontak tembak terjadi di Popome, Sabtu (3/11), Dua anggota KKB ditembak mati. Namun tak jarang, mereka yang menewaskan aparat.

Para anggota kelompok bersenjata masih melaksanakan banyak sekali serangan pada anggota TNI/Polri. Kemampuan mereka mengenal medan dan membaur dengan masyarakat merepotkan Tentara Nasional Indonesia dan Polri.

Rata-rata anggota OPM ini memakai senjata rakitan. Namun mereka juga mempunyai sejumlah senjata yang mempunyai daya pukul lumayan. Kebanyakan ialah hasil rampasan dari TNI/Polri.

Berikut beberapa senjata mereka yang pernah tertangkap kamera:

M-16 memakai peluru kaliber 5,56 mm. Jarak efektif tembakan sekitar 500-800 meter. Namun peluru bisa mencapai jarak 3.000 meter.

Tak kurang dari 80 negara pernah atau masih memakai M-16 sebagai senapan standar untuk para prajuritnya. Indonesia ialah salah-satunya.

TNI pernah memakai M-16 ini untuk mempersenjatai batalyon-batalyon tempurnya, sebelum alhasil Pindad memproduksi SS1 yang merupakan lisensi dari FNC Belgia.
