The Left Bank (La Rive Gauche) can be found in the southern part of Paris, below the River Seine. It's famous for being an area full of artists, writers and other arty types so is particularly popular with young Parisians. With greats such as Pablo Picasso and Ernest Hemingway having once lived here, it's not surprising this area is a hub for creativity. With so much to see and do in the area, it can get a little overwhelming but here are a few tips for how to save money when you're in Left Bank on a budget. Most Hotels have the option of breakfast but I always think it's best to opt out of this as there will no doubt be a bistro nearby that offers local produce at a fraction of the price. You can spend the morning drinking a fresh coffee and a traditional baguette. It's also fun to watch the local Parisians go about their business before all the tourists are up and out for the day. As mid-morning starts to approach, take a stroll along the River Seine and enjoy the views and architectural wonders Paris has to offer. One truly magnificent building is the Musee d'Orsay. If you want to go inside, you'll have to pay 8 but you may be able to enjoy one of the free lunchtime concerts the museum holds. These showcase young musicians and also established artists, whose repertoire ranges from the French chanson to more romantic music. If you want to eat out for a meal, make sure you go at lunch time. Most cafes and restaurants offer the same menus at lunch as the do at dinner, just at a cheaper price. If you're just stopping off for a coffee, it's usually cheaper to stand at the kafe and drink. Expect to pay a little extra if you sit at a table and more if you choose the terrace. If you don't want to eat out, head to a local specialty store, such as a bakery (boulangeries), a butcher's shop (boucheries), or a cheese shop (fromageries)and buy the ingredients for a picnic. You can sit in the grass near Place Jacques Rueff and have an amazing view of the tower. For the best views of the city, visit the roof of the department store Galleries Lafayette. There you'll find a free viewing gallery right in the centre offering panoramic views of the whole of Paris. You could coincide your visit to take in a free fashion show that take place every Friday at 3pm on the seventh floor that takes place in from March to December. Another tip is to head straight a tourist office when you arrive in Paris. Here you can always find flyers for discounted and cost-free events, free maps, coupons to use throughout your stay. Don't forget that the best time to take advantage of Paris' cheap deals is out of peak times.( avoid between April through to November. Queues are shorts and hotels in Paris are cheaper to book. Flights are likely to be much cheaper than during peak season too. By Roxanne Bridger - a travel enthusiast who loves to explore the world!
